Patent name: METHOD FOR REMOVAL OF ORGANIC MICRO-IMPURITIES FROM PHENOL
Patent Number: Patent No. 2111203
Priority: December 01, 1993
May 20, 1998
The invention relates to a method for purification of phenol produced within the process of joint phenol and acetone production by cumene method. The aim of the invention is to develop a catalyst which has high activity for phenol purification from organic micro-impurities with regeneration of the catalyst and which has high mechanical strength and stability with long catalyst life. Phenol resulting from distilling off light and heavy products of combined synthesis of acetone and phenol and impurity containing mesityl oxide α-methylstyrene, 2-methylbenzofuran and other carbonyl compounds is continuously contacted with industrial synthetic zeolite containing alumosilicate catalyst at 120-200°C at atmospheric pressure or at pressure which corresponds to the state of liquid phenol at volumetric rates of 0.3-3.5 h-1 The present invention affords conversion of mesityl oxide by at least 90% to attain service life of catalyst of 3 years without loss in catalyst active life. |
