Subject matter of the invention: salts are removed from phenol tar by extraction with aqueous solution of diisopropyl ether at 60°C and a tar-ether-water weight ratio of 1 : (0.5-1.5) : (0.3-0.9); the water-salt layer is then separated from the organic layer.
